Planning Activities
One of the roles I held at Iles End Counseling was to plan integrated arts activities that could be implemented in counseling session by both myself and my supervisor. These activities were designed to tailor specifically to clients with a variety of diagnoses including OCD, Anxiety, Depression, ASD, Oppositional Defiance disorder, ADHD, and more.
Leading Groups
Another one of my responsibilities at Iles End Counseling was to lead Art Therapy group sessions. The groups I ran spanned from children integrating new members of their families to those struggling to live with a special needs sibling. We would use the arts to communicate and express feeling as it is difficult for children to convey these more complex internal experiences with words.
Running Sessions
While working at Isles End Counseling I ran individual sessions as well as the groups. These sessions allowed me to practice building a trusting professional relationship that forms between client and therapist. I worked with my individual clients over the course of two months. The aim of these sessions was to work on more long term goals compared to the group sessions that were focused more on coping mechanisms and understanding.
Projects
Student Work from Endicott College
I have completed many Art Therapy driven projects in my time at Endicott. Throughout our various courses, we learn not only the skills we need to be a practicing clinician, but we also practice creating art in a healing space. This way we know how the client feels when producing art from such a vulnerable place. We focus on communication and analysis of the work we create as a group, ensuring that everyone can experience each perspective of the therapeutic process and learn from each other as we do. We use a variety of media ranging from simple drawing supplies to elements from nature. Each project is aimed to bring us more knowledge and experience so in our professional futures we are equipped to meet the client with where they are at and progress from there.
